The public sphere should be free and democratically organized. Many members have expressed that they do not wish to support so-called "social media" such as X (formerly Twitter) or Facebook because those platforms are under oligarchic control and serve vested, for-profit interests. By contrast, Mastodon is much less wide-spread but has emerged as an alternative.
